The future of advertising much like the future of anything is unknown. We know that advertising will be around because there is no reason for it to go away and if anything, we will see more of it. There is a lot of money to be had in advertising and there are new emerging ways in which to advertise. The newest way is of course that people are more commonly using smart phones, tablets, and in the US pretty much everything is linked to the Internet in some form or fashion. There are not many things that could not receive advertisements from the web. There are great ways to sneak ads into things now to, for instance product placement is getting used more often and even pairing products together such as cars and television shows.
Another trend that I have noticed showing up in television commercials would be the trend of random clips being forced together to make a sort of randomness. This is a trend that is popularized by a show called Tim and Eric that was on Adult Swim for many years. The show is great however it takes a certain type of person to be into it because it is, like i said, a seemingly random mash up of similar clips and it looks like poor editing. Its effect can be seen in commercials such as the Old Spice commercials with Isaiah Mustapha where he is on a boat and random things happen to put him on a horse. It is a hilarious take on this style and it worked really well in fact it became a sensation on YouTube by the next week. So it clearly worked I imagine that many people will copy this style in the future.
